Does the little filial on the bottom of the hoop screw off? I also have one these but it has a flat bottom. Mine is easy to light on a table or something and then hang up. I have seen this type in the catalogue and wondered how convenient there would be.
Yes it does, but It don't know why you would want to. The bottom is still rounded so it won't stand on a table. According to the catalogues, the 253 always had the rounded bottom lyre with most of them with the ball at the bottom, but the last variant was without. The flat bottomed lyre, again according to the catalogues, was for the 263. You do find quite a lot of the early 253s with the flat bottomed lyre though.
