I have a x246b which lights easily and burns brilliant white but after it has been on for about 15 mins it gradually dims to yellow. Pumping it doesn't help but if I turn it off then relight it after 10 seconds (no preheat) it works perfectly again. Can it be overheating?
It sounds like you have a clogged up jet. The pricker clean the hole in the jet when you turn it off and then it clogg up again. Remove the kerosene and filter it and try to clean the tank also. Michael
The vapouriser may be nearing the end of it's working life and that could also be the case for the burner, but it could just be that there is a build up of carbon on the pricker wire and if that is the case then carefully scrape it clean, it's also worth checking to see if all parts of the burner are properly tightened.
Maybe you dont use the correct kerosene and you become Black Carbon inside the nozle, or the temperature is to high after a few minutes. To give more pressure during it is burning yellow from overheating isnt a good idea, somtimes you will become a swollen vaporizer. Regards Frank
@Kenneth Hartley While the lamp is running you ca always try turning the control knob off and on again a few times in quick succession. This should clean the jet hole from carbon deposits and if running normally again would suggest carbon build up in the vaporiser whic as mentioned above can be cleaned off the pricked rod. You could also remove the pricker rod from the vaporiser and gently tap the threaded end on a soft piece of wood which may dislodge some carbon deposits from inside. There is also the possibility of heating and quenching to remove the more stubborn carbon but see how you get on first. Welcome to the forum and please keep us updated. Regards Jeremy
Hi there... Well your initial symptoms I experienced exactly ... after taking on board all the advice from much wiser lampoligists than me ...which are all so correct I can only say that I sorted and found out what this problem was ,,, a touch of fuel starvation..muck in the feed tube .. so take apart the lamp top hood off , glass out , remove vapouriser and control cock mechanism..now there down below is a fuel feed pipe which descends fathoms to the bottom of the tank .. nah.only a few inches really .. stiff wire down this to clear crappage and fuel debris in that tube ... up and down several time with the wire ..listen for noise as strikes bottom of tank .. any left paraffin left in.... empty in a jug and see if bits and stuff present ...do what you want with that do not return mucky PFN to the tank ... .. clean the small brass filter after simple screw off and examine spring , seal..you want a new small seal here ..re assemble...small end of spring upwards and try..new paraffin .. if that feed pipe and filter was full of muck it would stop pressure cause symptoms .. I have 3/4 tilleys and I always clean that fuel feed pipe ... have a look
