    Hi all,
    I recently acquired an Austramax lantern and having tidied it up I proceeded to light it only to find the washer between the fount and the control cock leaks.
    I have a box of rubber seals and was wondering if one of these would be a suitable replacement for the lead (??) washer. I was thinking that there would be little heat that far below the mantle.
    Comments??

    @Mustlust

    I’ll have a look (tomorrow) at what I’ve got in the shed that might do the job.

    Cheers

    Tony

    Ps. I can certainly make the lead washer.

    PPS. Thinking about this more (I’ve been travelling, and tired) and I think you will need the thick lead washer.

    Can you reshape the one on your lantern? I’m happy to make you a new one.

    The old washer was in pieces. An old mate bought me the lantern and by the time it came to me I think someone had it apart. It holds pressure with a little green washer, but that may not last very long.

    Green rubber seal makes control cock sit too high for the round shield.
