Hi ! I'm new here but starting to read about lamps. Here's a question for you experts: I own an old Coleman 243B lamp without globe. I can't seem to find a replacement globe for that model. Everywhere I looked, they only mention 243 or 243A. Do these globes fits my 243B ? Someone knows the exact part number I need ? Any input appreciated. Thanks ! Fred
That takes the standard small bluge globe for model 200. Not sure of the part number but if you look for a 200 globe that be righ and will fit and work. ::Neil::
Of course, if you REALLY want the CORRECT globe you need a Canadian globe. My 243B has a globe marked with a red sunshine, made in USA but only used in Canada. A globe maked "550 made in England" was also used. Of course these are identical to the bulge globe you have in every respect except the lettering. VBW Dan MacP
Leo- This should teach me not to rely on my aging memory. After reading your post, I checked my 243b, dated 10-65, and the globe has a green sunshine globe identical to yours. Several of my cannister lanterns had the red sunshine globe. If anyone knows the dates they were used, I'd like to hear about it. Nice globes, Made in USA, but as far as I know, only used in Canada. I got this info a while back which may be of use. Dates of markings found on Coleman Glass globes. Information via Fred Kuntz. 1932-33 - Sandblast etched large sunshine logo over “Coleman”. 1934-1945- Large green straight line “Coleman” 1946-1959- Small green sunshine over “Coleman” 1960-1980- Curved Pyrex over red Coleman logo Neil.
Neil- A comment on the staightline globes used until 1945-6. USA-Straightline "Coleman" on front, "Pyrex" with "Made in USA" underneath on the back. Canada-Straightline "Coleman" on the front, with "Pyrex" on the back. Again I am going by memory as I do not have the lanterns in front of me here at work. I will try and post a picture. The current President of the ICCC can probably verify this, as he sold me my replacement globe for a Canadian 242K. Fred's information is essentially correct, but there are subtle differences between USA and Canadian Globes, even though they were all apparently made in the USA, with one exception, the 550 red letter globe. I'm sorry I cannot present a more complete picture, but this information was learned the hard way. Pictures hopefully forthcoming. VBW Dan MacPherson
As a postscript, I'd like to add that I have a 1957 Coleman 249 that was made in the UK. It has an entirely different globe with a straightline "Coleman" in silver/black located near the center of the bulge. Dan
Yes but Fred was probably only looking at US lamps and may not have been so aware of the differences in Canadian globes. In the UK Coleman used English made globes which are marked Colex. I have never bothered to examine them to see what varieties there might be. ::Neil::
