Here is some of the contents. Hanging: Standing: I’ve got a bit of work cut out for me... The Tiley FL6s are unfired (and will remain so) - formerly the property of a regional airport in Victoria (Australia). Cheers Tony
Tony Just check the dates underneath those new tilleys see if they are the same . Would have been easier to unload at my house . Bob
@Lamp_Doctor I’ll check the dates later today. The FLs were in the pile at [secret location in unnamed suburb in Melbourne] and it was way too far to drive to your place on the way home. Sorry (). @Stuart Taylor I’ll keep them unlit (and will post in the Gallery). I already have two other FL6s, an SL1 and now, , a Kayen CL8 (the one to the right of the two silver FL6s). I’ll do some minor de-rusting treatment to the unfired ones, then wax them. They’ll be rather large “shelf queens”. Cheers Tony
Ive just got myself a fl6 I understand the mantle isnt the standard storm light one what should i be seaching for as the mantle isnt great in my one
@Lamp_Doctor The FL6s are both dated March 1960 (“360A”). @Jean J The lamp closest to the Arnotts box is a Petromax 882; the one to its left is an incomplete early Australian Kerona. @garth Tilley X246 “pork pie” vs FL6. Cheers Tony
Thanks tony the auction pics showed it as big id been thinking r1 size now can see theyre huge a quick look on ebay confirmed i got it for a good price too pics to come when it arrives
I'm not sure if there are varieties of No. 191 but a one with F.L. stamped on the packet should do the trick...
An Australian Kerona?? I could do with some details of that. How is it marked and is it in any way differnt to the NZ marked lamps we have seen? ::Neil::
@Mackburner Neil This is probably worth a thread on its own. I will dig through my paperwork later today on Kerona, but from memory (and my memory could be faulty, or my conclusions incorrect) I had concluded that: 1. There were two “batches” of Kerona production. The first batch, in the 1910s, just has “Kerona” on it, stamped on a plate soldered onto the tank or stamped directly onto the tank. These are the ones I concluded, because of paperwork, were “Australian”. I have seen 4 of these (two are mine and two others are elsewhere in Hobart. 2. The second batch are stamped “Kerona New Zealand”. For some reason (the paperwork), I concluded these were made in the 1920s. 3. All the Keronas I’ve laid my hands on are essentially the same, but with manufacturing differences: eg the pump tubes sit lower or higher; the burner flame spreaders are different I could be entirely wrong in my conclusions, so I’ll go though what I’ve got later today and get back to this topic. Getting the Hobart-based Keronas up and running has been (is) a slow and steady project. Cheers Tony
Found mantle and same price as guardsman one they must fit other lamps as julie has only seen the one fl6 in her store. She services lamps and stoves.grabbed a new vaporiser, washerkit and pump cup while i was there so theres no reason now that this tilley wont work
@garth That mantle is correct for your FL6. You can test your FL6 with an ordinary Tilley mantle, then use the 191 for scaring the neighbours. Cheers Tony
@Mackburner I've started a new thread on the Kerona Table Lamp here: Kerona: an attempt at a short history of the Kerona Table Lamp Cheers Tony
