    Hi,

    I'm new in the forum. I'm italian (sorry for bad english). I have restored a TL106 but I still have problem with this lamp. I changed two vapouriser and burner. The vapourisers are new, from tilley online shop but the burner is not original (purchased on ebay). I also changed all washers and the pressure is ok on the lamp.

    I follow all steps to light the lamp properly but, when the lamp lighting, I have halo around the mantle, the brightness is not very ok and the smell of paraffin is very high. I tried to change the mantle (not original), I tried to unscrew the cup of burner, but the result was the same.

    can anyone help me?

    Thanks

    Biagio

    Sounds like the air fuel mix is wrong. If you are using a new vapouriser the issue could be the burner. maybe a spider has entered and made a home or dirt in the burner pipes.

    I'm using paraffin. the same used for heater stove.
    This paraffin in petromax lamp works well.

    I'm not too familiar with the Tilley lamps but it looks to me like it does not use paraffin.

    Paraffin (kerosene) is the correct fuel.

    Tilley burners tend to die of old age. The combination of heat and flowing gas wears them out from the inside. Also on a table lamp the vaporiser in time starts to push through the seat and will eventually start to compromise the mixture because the gas stream is too high in the air intake. They last pretty well but once they start to fail there is nothing you can do. You can't fully dismantle them fully either because the thread on the air tubes will be burnt and will not screw back in the main casting and give a good seal. If you try the same burner with several vaporisers and there is no improvement then it is a scrap burner. The older ones are better made than the modern new types but buying an old used burner is always a lottery. ::Neil::

    @Biagio "The vapourisers are new"
    I think the problem lays here.

    Welcome aboard!:thumbup:

    The build quality of the new Tilley vapourisers is poor, if you have an old vapouriser which still functions then perhaps you should try using it.

    Do let us know how you get on.

    If the burner has been rebuilt, are the fittings air tight? If the dome is loose the air fuel mix will be wrong
