Just recently picked up a 1550 500cp lantern. I cleaned everything up on it. Now that it's back together I would like to light it. But I'm not able to pressurize the fount. I replaced the leather pump cup. So what's going on? Sticky air valve? Coleman has a check valve and air screw rod that you can open and close but this doesn't have that. Solutions. Please
Is there resistance when you pump? As you would normally expect when pushing air through the valve. If not, does the pump leather fit snugly in the pump tube and is it well oiled? If there is resistance, does it feel (and sound) like there is air getting through the valve or does it 'lock solid'? If so, is the pump rod pushed out again by air pressure indicating a leaky NRV. Have you closed the pressure release screw on the filler cap? That should be a good start. We need to localise where the fault could be.
