Anyone solved this problem? My pump shaft has unscrewed and left the pump leather stuck at the bottom if the tube. Any suggestions welcomed!
Bend a small hook in a piece of thin wire and insert the hook through the central hole of the stuck piece. It should pull out easily. When I got it, I was in the same boat with the Petromax 826 that I posted recently.
Piece of wire with a small hook end should do it . Poke it down the hole through the washer and try and hook it out Sometimes you can put the shaft back in and try to pick up the nut by tightening and then pull it out Bob .
Unfortunately the wire dies not work. Story is probably a bit worse. It is a new leather and the lamp had been running for a few hours without issue. I left it a couple of days and then went to re light. The pump seemed to feel a bit wierd so I pulled it all the way out and then put it back. Once it was pushed home it refused to budge again. By fiddling with it on and off managed to unscrew the shaft. Is ut possibke for the leather to swell up and become too tight? Maybe need to get the wifes hairdryer in it to dry it out a bit
Use a stronger/thicker wire and pull harder. It must come out if it is only the friction of the leather cup agains the pump tube. You can file a hook shape in the end of a 2-3mm thick wire or rod. Form the other end into a handle or an eye for a t-handle so that you can exert enough force without hurting your fingers.
I find the spoke off a push bike wheel works really well. Already has the hook and is nice and stiff.
Thanks guys. Back to life again and I got it burning much better than ever. Had to sacrifice the kids trampoline spring widget. A new jet and mantle makes it look good. Don't need the light but it is nice to warm the toes. Summer warmth still some way off.
Oh dear - that might cost you in the next couple of months! I think I'd have been sacrificing an old wire coat hanger instead, or something like that, anyway... BTW, Tallinn is a lovely place. I've been twice and maybe I'll get back again one of these days...

Had a bit of bother getting it going. The original cork seal on the NRV was fine last year but sitting in fuel had softened it up. New rubber and away she goes. Estonia's next top model shows beauty is not just in kerosene appliances.
