Veritas lanterns have an NRV which is similar to a Primus stove type. Wants a key which you can make by cutting a 5mm slot in the end of a large bolt.

Yes the control will screw right out. There is no stop on it. The gland packing can be replaced with PTFE gas tape rolled into a string and a a couple of turns wrapped around the spindle. ::Neil::

It is a simple tool to remove the NRV.it works well on other lanterns.
Issues on lighting your veritas 350, on other forums on site, some suggest a mix of shellite 20%, 80% kero, also your lantern may be just petrol,

Hi there. I put the spring from a pen in mine to replace the one in the NRV, i cut it down a little as it was very hard to pump, pumps easier now. The pip has to be smooth as possible.
I did try stretching the original spring but another fella suggested the spring from a pen.
The lamp reference gallery has some good reading on the veritas 350.

Hi Tom, a couple of suggestions, first, it appears the seal in the cap is had it, with my ''KERO'' lanterns an o'ring that is the thicker type and will fit snug in the cap with no wrinkles works fine, I would not suggest this type of seal with petrol lamps.

Also, lantern/lamps should not be over filled to running out the filler hole upon filling, there has to be ample air space left for air to pressurize the lantern, hope this helps, Frank

    @outback boy

Fuel doesnt start coming out of fuel cap untill i start pumping. Once i get about 20+ pumps fuel starts seeping out. Could it be an NRV issue?

The NRV in a Veritas is in the pump tube. So if fuel is coming out the fuel filler cap it can't be the NRV. On the other hand if fuel is coming into the pump tube, you'd better service the NRV.

    Cheers

    Tony

Just like Tony has said. If fuel is coming out fuel filler cap , new seal in cap. I had to make my own. Bid fat oring will do. I had to trial and error the NRV with the pen spring. But it seems to be working ok, i dont over fill my lanterns as they need air space to pressurise more efficiently.

I have put it all back together, the cap i used some 1.5mm conveyor belt rubber, a bit more fuel tolerant, i have hole punch sise to fit, did take some doing as actual cap sise is slightly larger than the thread, . On an other discussion i had about my handi kero pet NRV, some fellas made coments about how the NRV should be, they did mention smooth face, slightly smaller than pip carrier, flush with pip holder. Also the spring from the pen helps as my NRV springs were tired, they did mention stretching may be 20%. I didnt as i thought i would wreck the spring, went with the pen spring, cheap and replacable, as had to trial and error., i have no pictures, but i think i may have to start a file so i can pass on what i have lernt, old lanterns and part are hard to come by some times.

Yes, i found that it did not take 1st time around. Outback boy, Frank, had kindly sent some parts and a cople of big mantles, he says that th veritas likes a big mantle to heat the generator tube. But not to close. I preheated mine twice i filled the cup up as high as i could , hponed valve on 2nd pre heat. It did tke off, not as bright as some of the others i have seen in thegallery. But it did light, im having pricker issues and could not clear the jet.

Very cool. I have attached so pictures, your lantern is the same as mine. Ive noticed my rubber coveyor dose not like the kero to well, seals should be made of viton/nitrile?
Its great to see the lanterns fially come to life, this wjat i like the most, 20190120_125802.jpg 20190120_125734.jpg 20190120_125721.jpg 20190120_125734.jpg

When i took mine apart, i had never done this before, i was so paranoid i would break it, lantern parts are scarce or harder to get. The fellas on this site have and do give very sound advice. Glad i could help out, i have only been getting into restoring lanterns for less than a year. I do have a collection various colmans, tilleys, handi kero pet, kayen, veritas, 1a aladdins, i look for the old neglected and bring them back to life.

I am exactly the same way. I like buying projects and completing to bring back to life. I have taken 14 months to find parts and complete a lantern. The satisfaction of knowing that you have a certain model lantern and hunting parts down.
