hello fellas, can you help me out with this, I pick it up in a couple of days, local find says Ditmar, looks cool
Hello Darryl, that's an exceptional find, and all original as I can see from your photo. Maybe it has been lacquered with silver bronze, but who knows. There are not many of them left out there I guess. And no spare part to obtain for it for sure. If you ever should consider to get rid of it please remember me! Regards, Martin
Darryl. Hey I'm moving over to Whyalla looks like all the rare stuff is being found there now . Or maybe a good holiday clean it out and around the area and come home . Nice find anyway keep up the finding bit to . Bob .
This is probably the rarest lantern i have come across, it looks like whick lantern stuck ontop of a pressure can.
Hello Darryl, I'm wondering whether you've got the short shaft connector with the wheel to operate the pricker. Usually it should be fixed to the lantern with a small chain which seems to be missing at yours. It was missing at mine too and I had to build a replacement from old Ditmar parts that I had in spare. Another thing is the lower rim at the tank which is not present at the other 541's that I've seen, and also not on mine. It may have been soldered onto the lantern by a previous owner. I'm curious about the photos you will take. And beware of breaking the glass, there's no replacement to get any more. Regards, Martin
Nice rare find ! It's a strange combination of a pressure lantern and a hurricane lantern. More rare is the original globe.
@Darryl Durdin A very nice find. I look forward to seeing more pictures and I hope the restoration goes well. Henry.
Btw : the upper lantern part is a Ditmar 801 model. Besides a few small details like the holes for the globe lift the shape and size is the same. Source: The Loveland Lantern Collection
