Picked up a 1963 Coleman 220E (transitional with Ribbed Collar) off of Craigslist last week. I needed a dual mantle lantern to do some mantle comparison testing, so I did a light fettle, and lit her up for the first time last Friday. She has seen quite a bit of use, and has a broken valve wheel/knob, but the replacement part arrived this morning. It came in a nice home made Lantern box shown in the picture. Running a pair of Coleman #21 Mantles Running Egret U-shaped (left), and Round (right) 300-400cp mantles.
That pic was taken with the two Egret mantles at the end of the mantle testing. The box was a cool bonus.
Nice lantern. I’ve only been collecting a few years now, and when I see E transitionals for sale, my first thought is “it’s just another 220/228 E isn’t it”, but they are something more. 220/228 lanterns became perhaps a wee bit less interesting after the E transition models.
