Good evening! Anyone got an idea what lamps theese are? Especially the one in the back... Thanks in advance. /Peter
@Jean J Ok. Thanks. Any Value in such Aladdin? I might get to make an offer for it so would very much appreciate a ball park value... /Peter
Correct: Aladdin lamp & heater Spares Item 979907 (probably). The lamp on the left looks like a Matador. Look on the flame spreader, it should say MATADOR. The chimneyless lamp on the right looks like a Kosmos burner, and will need a Kosmos chimney (see Base Camp) The little one at the front - I wouldn't bother with. It's a small 'simplex' (single wick) wall lamp. Just needs a chimney. Hung on a wall near the foot of the stairs, such lamps were used to see your way to the bedroom etc. Often used by servants, plain and simple. Values? All depends on what someone is willing to pay, and how much they want them.
The Aladdin looks to be either a model 21 or 23. If it is still an English made 23 then it works well and is a nice reliable lamp that gives a good light. Looks good with a white glass shade. The hanging lamp on the left is typical of a style that is commonly seen in Sweden. Usually they have a Kosmos burner though. The one on the right is an ornamental table lamp and would most likely have had a cloth or parchment shade. As Derek says, the small one at the front is just your average 'see where you're going' type. Value is very variable, so difficult to say.
The aladdin lamp is the type that was commonly used for light throughout the highlands before electricity, as a boy in the 50s I remember more of these than any other.
The Aladdin isn't a 21 or 23; they have octagonal control knobs. The large round control and loxon gallery would make it a model A(1932), B (1933-1955) or Super Aladdin aka model 14- the UK made version of the B (1932-1953) - or just possibly a 12 (1928-1935). The markings on the knob will give you the exact model. I have a chrome Super Aladdin that looks very similar- Mine is 1938- 53 as the knob is marked "British Made" , whereas the earlier ones are marked "London". Hope this helps.
Yes, I forgot about that bit. Actually the octagonal knobs are on the 21C and the 23. The 21 has a round knob and I think this is what it is. The unperforated band around the burner matches with a 21 as does the gallery.
Actually- I think you've got it. Looking again at mine, the unperforated band on the burner is noticeably narrower, and there is a slight "step" in the profile at that point... aand a quick search shows that uk import 21's did indeed have round knobs pre 1963!
