    Hi again!

Got an offer to buy this lamp. It’s not a petromax as far as I can see....Optimus?
    Seller wanted €35 for it.

    Thanks in advance!

Looks like an early(ish) Petromax 821. I am fairly certain it isn't Optimus. The top and pump aren't Radius either.

It has a lot of corrosion and cosmetic damage. For myself, I would not want to pay nearly that much.
There are similar lamps in much better condition for lower prices in the market.

The fuel cap and air screw look more Swedish than German to my eye.

It looks a bit rugged doesnt it...? Not many lamps on the market here on my little island so I have to go with what’s offered..
I’ll pop over to sellers place next week and have a look and try to bargain a bit.
Really got the “fever” since I got that 827 to light up again:content:

I dont mind the looks of it. I found it very satisfying to fettle with theese lamps and try to get them alive so as long as it’s somewhat complete I wouldn’t mind it at all. Having said that I’ll defineatly try to get the price down a bit.

Could be a Valmet. They have the look of a Petromax but being in Finland? I have seen much worse and it will clean up pretty well. Almost certainly all brass so noy likley to be corroded much. ::Neil

Most of the best lamps I've purchased where hidden by poor photography, lights and dust like this one... never judge the book by its cover, it could be a gem or not, but worthed to check.

35€ is an amount that I would always pay for a lamp, especially for the 200cp considering that just the parts are worthed the total. It's like a dinner out at an average restaurant, I'm sure that a new lamp is more satisfying, at least for me :)

I would snap it up for 35 euro, especially as it is with glass.

Then again I bought some real old rubbish that I have to hide from my wife.

My bet is a pre 1954 Petromax 821 by looking at the pump style, but with all the clones it's hard to say... the front of the lamp will tell :)

And if it really is a petromax and comes with an original globe then we'll see if it is worthed or not :)

If it is local and you do not need to pay extra for shipping, it becomes more attractive. Nevertheless, bargain the seller down on principle.

Go there and just take it for 20€, explaining all the work involved in restoring it and the parts needed to make it work again

€35 would be a very attractive price for me( if you compare that with what I'll be paying for a similar lantern over here in Malaysia).
I'll be getting that for an equivalent of €80 to €110 here. And most of any I'm getting would be incomplete or mixed up with other parts.

Weel a marked globe is 10euros.
If it's a real petromax you ony have to put some fuel in , new mantle and light it up.

Its home! Took her apart and gave her a good first bath..
No stamps, inscriptions or anything on it. Seller told me he remembered it from his granddads house, mid 1950s. Wasn’t new then as he recalled.
Is there any way to identify it fur sure?

It is looking ever so much better already!
The hood cap looks Petromax-ish. The distinctive pricker control knob/lever should be the definitive clue to identify the manufacturer.

No, I can’t find anything stamped on it. Looked all over.
Only thing I could read was was “Germany 200/250” on the burner.

The 'Germany' burner is quite common on similar 200/250cp Petromaxes.
But the unstamped fount is sure rare:).

Has the look of a Standard 2020 but Standard marked all their lamps so that is unlikely. German and not marked is not common but we have seen a few and this looks like yet another mystery. Neat looking lantern. ::Neil::

The parts. Looks a lot similar to the parts on my 827...
Could this help identify my lamp?

That rod lever on my lantern looks a lot like on a Standard! (I googled:content:).
So, my next question is, would the available spare parts fit this “unmarked standard”? I.e the same I bought for my Petromax 827?
