Railway Track Lamp

I did see somewhere that this is the Kayen RL 3 Track Railway Lamp but lost the connection. So cannot confirm.

Welded Frame not riveted. Did originally have an all steel fount but completely rusted out. Replaced with Brass to complete.

 

I never did have a model number for this. I was certainly aware of the model because it is listed but without a number. Confirmation would be nice. ::Neil::

 

Could you please post some more photos from different angles. This is a very interesting piece and I would like to see more.

Well Model Number is a problem, information I have if I remember is held by a Collector in Qld, [ Not Albert ] and he seems to think that he has it and no one else is getting it.

A bit selfish but that's his wish.

Have come across an early picture of this Track Lamp and it is filed under Kayen/ RL 8. So appears to be this

That makes sense as the Tilley was AL8. ::Neil::

I've found a Kayen reference from 1949 to "Industrial Lamps - Repair Type Lamp Model RL6 and AL8".



So I suspect this lamp of Colin's is a Kayen RL6.

Edit: I note that Neil McRae lists the Kayen RL6 in the Pressure Lamp Catalogue.

Yes I do have this listed but I am still confused. I list both RL3 and RL6 as a track inspection lamp. Is that parts list using Kayen and Tilley models so RL6 is the Kayen and AL8 the Tilley? RL3 is a mystery. I don't remember where I got that model number from. RL6 is another matter and I can confirm this lamp as RL6 because I have this ad. ::Neil::

 

My reading is the Kayen is listed as RL6 (=Repair Light 6); and the Tilley as AL8.

Yes having had a look at the whole list they do say parts for both. One thing strikes me as odd though. AL11 was replaced in 1937 with AL21 but still in 1949 they are not mentioning the later lamp. ::Neil::

I think, if you look at the start of this thread, the RL3 was mentioned but never corroborated.

Yes I saw that and didn't query it because I have RL3 listed as a Tilley AL8 copy. I have hunted my paper and I don't know where I got that model number from. Must have been given to me, because I don't dream these numbers up, but I don't know who by. ::Neil::
