I've got this lantern last autumn from a collecting friend. There was so many work on it, but now: It runs I've made a new vaporizer with a Hasag jet. The double nipple of the preheater was broken, I made a new and soldered. no picture from the new... There are a lot of stress cracks in the bottom of the tank, many times soldering... The fillercap had no screw, I've made a new one. The work was worth it! Now it shines again in its old glory. Focus 01
Hi Leo, Did you make the whole vaporizer tube or the hasag jet and nipple just screw into the original vapoorizer? So it burns kerosene now, right? I have another question, on my focus when I screw back the vaporizer tube to the main tank block it stops a little too far, so when it is in the correct position it is not tight. I don’t understand how to have the seal and keep it in the correct straight position, I hope it’s clear. I was wondering if originally they used some sort of sealing paste to keep it right. Hi Nicola, The pre-owner started to rebuild the vaporizer, but in my opinion the parts didn't fit properly. So I only used the lower part. I made the upper part from an 8mm brass rod. The two parts I adapted with the lathe in such a way that a recess was created which was soldered with silver solder. On top came, similar to the original, a 10mm brass case which was also soldered. Between tank and carburetor I put lead gaskets, a little trying with the thickness then resulted in the right position.
Hi Leo, many thanks for your answer. Well, I will keep the original vaporizer and jet, no problem. About the lead washers, that's what I was going to try, I am sure it will work as you say. I was asking because the "original as found" burner assembly didn't have any lead washer for the preheater and for the main vaporizer, they were just screwd into the main block, that's why I thought about the use of a sealing paste. Ahah Leo, don't be embarassed So did you use the hemp on the threads and also a lead washer against the main block? Or the hemp was enough? I don't know if some teflon tape on the threads would be effective too. Nicola
