Hi everyone I have bought a Primus 1060 with the glass missing. Does anyone know where I perhaps could be so lucky to find this? Thank you in advance. BR Casper
You will have a hard time to find an original Primus glass. They are very scarce now. The glass to suit a Coleman 236 or 237 is exactly the same size and these glasses are available.
Hi Nils Ok. Coleman glass it is. But I cannot Seem to find it on Pelam or Fogas site. Do you know where I can find the glass? BR Casper
Hello, You may have to start looking in the US. I would check out pitman_marine and he does offer international shipping. He is offering an unmarked 236, 237 and it's the same glass which the 639 uses. The glass is made for the Amish NITEHAWK lantern and this is why it's unmarked so you won't see Coleman anywhere on this glass. It will fit your Primus 1060. His international shipping is inexpensive compared to others. If I had one of these glass globes it would be a little more expensive to ship. I hope this helps. Check your PM messages. Cheers, Norman
Hi Norman Thank you very much for the info and PM. I will order the glass as soon as I have the general overview and know if any other parts are needed. BR Casper
Hi Nils, I'm just wondering if the Primus 1060 could be converted to run on kerosene by using the 237 vaporizer and 237 preheater cup. And of course you may ask why convert the lantern to kerosene and the answer is I prefer kerosene ever auto fuel or Coleman fuel. Personally I think kerosene is a much safer fuel. By the way this 1060 lantern is on my bucket list so if you come across one please PM me. Nils, Have a fantastic day. Cheers, Norman
If you find an unmarked one and you don't mind some fiddling (and cheating) you can buy glass etching fluid and create the Primus logo. That's if you want it to look 'authentic' even though it wont be.
I have wondered the same but thought the fitting size is different between the 236 and 237 generator. If a 237 generator will fit on a 236 then it should be possible.
Hi Nils, From what I can see both generators have the same diameter and length. So in theory the generator nut from a 236 will also work on the 237. Mike at oldcolemanparts.com has both the 236 and 237 generators. The 236 generator is remanufactured because trying to find this generator is almost impossible. I don't know who Mike uses to remanufacture the 236 generator but I do know these new generators are very good quality. If you are in need of either one of these generators Mike does offer international shipping. Cheers, Norman
As a general rule I don’t like to see lamps converted to use a different fuel. I understand why folk might want to but it sometimes involves modifications that can be complicated and you often end up with a lamp no longer as it was originally designed so in effect a Frankie. That would be a shame with a lamp like the Primus 1060 which is a classic and not all that common. I guess it depends on how you see and use the lamps you collect. If your lamps are a collection to be viewed as a mini museum then they should perhaps be as original as possible and conversion detracts from that. If they are to be a small collection of lamps for regular use then conversion may make sense but I would say better to buy lamps designed for your preferred fuel. So don’t convert a 1060 but buy a kero lamp such as a Coleman 237. ::Neil::
@mcc The chances of finding an original 1060 glass are almost non existent. I won't say impossible though. The best option is to try and find a Coleman glass to suit model 236 or 237 (maybe others as well). They will fit and work.
@mcc Here is the link for American Mantle. American Mantle sells replacement glass and it's unmarked. Globes If you will scroll down the page you will find the replacement glass you are looking for. SKU No.: CLG9500 I hope this information helps. Cheers, Norman
