This is probably a Kayen CL12 being a copy of the Tilley AL21. As similar as it is to the Tilley AL21, as usual there are differences between the Kayen and the Tilley. Where the are 2 items in the one picture, the Kayen is on the left. The diameter of the Kayen is smaller than the Tilley. The Kayen parts can fit inside the Tilleys. Kayen vent is narrower. Kayen air tube hole is larger. Kayen glass holding ring is steel. And the burner is just weird. As Neil pointed out to me, the burner is larger than a normal AL21 burner, therefor 300cp rather than 200cp. Air tubes with a fine mesh. These came from a 1946 and a 1951 catalogue. View attachment 61171 Is AL11 a typo done twice or is this one we knew nothing about ??? And it has a pressure pip.
Excellent, Anthony! Another piece of the Kayen puzzle, and one of a kind. It has found a good home. Cheers Tony @Anthony
Interesting that they match parts to AL11 and not AL21. That implies differences presumably in sizes. I have the Kayen listed as a copy of AL11 but it clearly is a copy of AL21 but with some parts AL11 sized. Very interesting and very good to finally see an example of what has to be a pretty rare beast. I shall have to revise my description of this model. Cool stuff and many thanks. ::Neil::
Hello Anthony, I just scored one of these in a very poor state as someone long ago converted it to gas, Bummer. The one good thing about it, It still had it's marked Armour glass in it. Cheers Marko @Anthony
@Marko57 , thanks for the info. Does it have the same burner and air buttons ?? (I'm assuming it doesn't being converted to gas)
Hello Tony, My son found it for me and for $25 with burner missing and the glass being good, please get it for me. Thinking it was a Tilley and i do need two glass panels. He delivered it the next day and what a surprise to find out it was a Kayen which i have been after for to many years. The dude who converted even removed the fuel tank so she will never go again on kero, Sad.
