I've put this in the Lamp Action Gallery because there was plenty of action at the time. We all know what it's like. We get a good lamp. One we have been searching for for ages. You even do a bit of bragging about it and strut around the house until the Mrs kicks you out side and back to the shed. So I changed the seals, tightened this and that and put a mantle on it. Time to burn off the mantle, With my back turned as I was putting away the tools after all this fettling, well you can see for yourself,
Yeah, I learned pretty quickly never to turn my back when priming an unfamiliar lamp (or stove, come to that)…
Thank goodness the fire did not spread further. Its best if we could test fire or use our lanterns in opened spaces away from combustibles. We tend to turn our backs on them.
WOW!!! Never turn your back, for sure! It's probably just something minor but enough to burn the house down! Good luck!
What amazes me is that you actually thought of taking photos. I would have been running around trying to put the darn thing out.
oh! i think we all have had a flame up like that... I know i did ones with a coleman gasoline space heater, model #4 radiant heater..... real eye opener and glad i was outside when i was tinkering on it. Glad you didnt get hurt!
One wouldn't have thought that the top of a lantern was the best place to build a small bonfire from all the used match sticks. Henry.
Ah, now that was a TACTICAL flare-up, deliberately induced to continue the pre-heating on what was an extremely cold night...
Ah, now that WASN'T a tactical flare-up - the NRV failed for some reason and panel wipe started to spew out from the pump-tube and soon ignited in the metal box. If anything, it was a case of the stove giving me "the treatment" rather than the other way around! Kero, you can mess about with; panel wipe, I don't...
