Although it's not black, I immediately thought of a (later) Tilley valve knob but then I noticed the pointer which, because the Tilley needle control doesn't rotate 360 degrees, would be superfluous. Would it fit a Tilley ? If so, is it perhaps, a 'Made in Australia' replacement ? Henry.
It's gotta be Tilley - or some sort of Aussie copy such as Kayen. As others have said, the colour and pointer are most unusual...
I’ve never seen that form of knob on a Kayen. All Kayen control cocks I’ve seen are more or less like the Tilley control cock with the screw-on black “B” knob (the Kayen using a brass knob]. Tony Edit: Kayen would have ceased production by the time Tilley adopted the “push-on” knob.
The brown knob appears to have a pointer that suggests a metering or regulating adjustment. As far as I know Tilley lamps don’t meter very well. I’m thinking it’s not from a Tilley and I’m more inclined to think not from a lamp. Someone will identify it.
Or a foreign Tilley. They made Tilley lamps for the Swiss civil defence. I can imagine that other rules subscribe a way to make sure you know where the needle is. Did Bi-Aladdin/Vapalux also not use this style of knob ?
No never on Bialaddin/Vapalux. I would have a look at Unimet from HK. They sort of copied Tilley with a couple of lanterns. The ones I have seen didn't use this knob but I am sure I have not seen examples of everthing they made yet. ::Neil::
A good idea Neil but I tried it on my Unimet and the slot is too big to fit the knob. The mystery continues.
If it does not belonged to a Tilley or other lanterns, the next candidates could well be some electrical appliances or equipment, probably vintage too. It looks rather similar to some knobs on some potentiometric controls or some selector switches. Oven temperature, sound volume, etc controls? Or bass, treble, midrange adjustment knobs on some audio equipment? Perhaps even as a selector switch on some eletrical instruments(multimeters, ohm, volt or ammeters)? I'm only guessing as it looks rather familier on those.
