Hi all my Dad just gave me a Primus 1015 he had back when he lived in Sweden in the 60’s. I don’t know much about them as I only have Aladdin 21’s but it would make a great project to fix up I think it needs a bit of work etc any guidance would be great on best place for replacement parts I had a nose on the bay and some sites but not sure tbh sorry this is my first pressure lamp lol my dad said he broke a screw on the value unfortunately seen in one of the photos so any help would be great thank you all
Hi @DarkWispa , you are starting a most worthy and rewarding project. Your 1015 can use the same 10 inch fitter shade as is used on Aladdin mantle lamps. You can buy a new needle and jet from MUNSTYCKE TILL PRIMUS 1020 or the service kit SERVICESATS TILL PRIMUS 1020 Seals and pump leather cup are also available from our host The Fettlebox: At your service! - The Fettlebox You can ask Ross for the correct parts. There are a few potential problem areas fettling your 1015: -Removing the pump non-return valve to clean it and to replace the viton rubber sealing pip inside it: The NRV's are very often so tight that you run the risk of damaging it or the fount if you do not use the proper well-fitting tool. Consider contacting someone near your area who fettles Primus stoves or lanterns for assistance. -The threads on the two air tubes and dome of the burner may be very corroded. They may not sit tight after cleaning. You can use an exhaust cement like Holts Firegum on the threads to secure and seal them. It comes in a tube and looks like white tooth paste. -The broken screw can be carefully extracted by cutting a groove into it with a fine Dremel cutting disc. Then, using a flat blade screw driver, a bit of heat and some penetrating oil it should come out. You can remove the spindle assembly beforehand. There is a graphite seal inside the box nut that may need replacing. Invaluable aids to fettling are a small gas blow torch, carburettor cleaner spray, fine steel wool for brass parts, copper grease like Copaslip for assembling threaded parts, and a good metal polish like Autosol. A 300cp string tie double tie mantle will work, similar to the ones used on Tilley and Bialaddin lamps. Try to be conservative in your approach to cleaning or polishing the nickel plated parts. No sanding, scouring or abrasives! You can always clean more later, but damage cannot be un-done. I'm sure the other members will want to give additional advice.
Congratulations on a nice lamp. The 1015 is a very nice lamp and one of my favourites. It looks to be from the mid 1930s, what is the date code underneath the tank? One or two letters with a number underneath in a small circle. The screw for holding the cleaning wheel onto the shaft can be tricky to get out when broken. They are not easy to drill out as the screw is steel and the wheel is brass. The thread is 1/8" BSW. It is possible that Fogas will have a new one. It is the same shop that Phil linked to for the jet and needle. Does the wheel turn? It is common that the shaft seizes so the cleaning needle rod doesn't move. Plenty of penetrating oil and gently does it is the way to go. As Phil said, take it slow and ask if in doubt. This is an 85 year old lamp and parts don't grow on trees.
@phaedrus42 thanks for you help really appreciate it and to @Nils Stephenson im away on holiday I will update you on the date code when I get back ok thanks again I keep you all updated as it goes
