I used a 4D Golden Anchor 500 cp Chinese mantle. They don’t burn as bright as the Peerless and have a sunset hue to them. At $0.25c each, they were worth a shot. The lantern is next to it is an August 1963 Coleman 200A with a kerosene conversion. The mantle is a Peerless 2C-HG that burns whiter and brighter. I guess a kero kit would be next for the 200.

    @goldwinger11

    What fuel is the 1951 200 burning?

    Regards Jeremy

    I would thing it's more a case of the wrong mantle. Coleman 200 is a 300cp lantern so really wants a Coleman 21A or equivalent. A 500/600cp mantle is likely to be underfueled and possibly duller as a consequence. ::Neil::

    @X246A The 200 is using Coleman fuel at the moment.
    @Mackburner I used the larger mantle for a few reasons. I was curious about the Chinese mantle’s color. It is definitely not white light. The price was right to test the lantern to assess what repairs will be needed, and to see if it will power the larger mantle. I wasn’t going to use my Peerless 2C-HG mantles for that. I will be converting it to Kero in the future.

    Next I’ll try the same mantle burning kero.

    In addition to the 21A, a Nr. 99 mantel can also be used; slightly larger but still smaller than the Nr. 11.:content:

    @Tony Press Thanks for that. Interesting read.

    I have noticed that there is an air leak somewhere that led to a lower operating pressure. Without knowing the history but at least knowing it lights, is good news. Next is to clean the generator, recheck the fuel cap that has a new gasket, check the nrv, clean the air intake and try it out.

    8859F3C5-4699-4CF3-A81D-EC3A3FC615BC.jpeg So my mantle blew out on my Petromax 829. What better time to test these mantles than now. They are bright. They’re not pure white but passable. The bulb size appears to be a shade larger than the Peerless 111.

    So I finally got around to cleaning the generator on the 200. It lights up the mantle very well. There is not much difference between the 500 cp mantle and the Peerless 2C-HG mantles. I’m happy

    Congratulations on the 1/'51 200! If it's a US lantern, it's fairly rare.

    Does yours have the original vent with the red speckles against the blue porcelain on the underside?

    For mantles for the 200/200A, I've found they can easily push a larger mantle than the Coleman 21. The old Peerless 2C-HG was about perfect, and a Petromax Superiour can be made to work by shrinking it. To do this, just light the lantern while the mantle is burning in. It's best to pre-heat the generator so the lantern starts right up. The mantle will (usually) shrink to perfectly fit the flame inside.

    @Hippie Yes mine is a USA made lantern with the speckled vent. I usually use the 2C-HG mantles on my 200 and 200A lanterns. This 500cp Golden Anchor was an experiment to see if it had the power to light up which it did well.
