    I am pretty sure you can strainen the faults a little and then solder the ends together ..

    I would keep it clean it a little out as a "conversation piece".
    Or at least remove the fittings.

    No story that I know of, the boyscouts had done some cleaning at their cabin, so there might be some info if there was an incident.
