Hi All, My mantles have turned up for my Coleman Peak 1 model 222 that I picked up from a local reclamation yard the other week. I've had a search on the forum but can't seem to find much info on them. Can anyone tell me what this bit of gauze is for that came with it and I guess this loose plate just needs to be refitted inside the lantern? It's quite a dinky little lantern but is rather rusty so no idea at all how to approach it!
The plate is a heatshield that prevents the fount or tank from overheating and building up excessive pressure. Fit it so that it creates a gap between the hot side and the fount. These little lamps are notorious for control valve o-ring failure, preferably replace them. Test pressure holding ability with a water dunk test. Consult the Coleman collectors forum. Only attempt to light up outdoors. Good luck and be safe.
Yes the heat shield plate needs needs to be refitted and the wire mesh is for the burner cap. You really need to replace all of the O-Rings. Here is the diagram of the 222 plus the aftermarket O-Rings. I hope this helps. Cheers, Norman
These are really cute neat looking lanterns and I hate them because of that stupid O ring seal on the control which WILL fail and bring some excitement into your life. I really don't understand why Coleman would make such a pleasant looking lantern and then make it dangerous to actually use. ::Neil::
My lack of knowledge is apparent as I didnt even know the burner unscrewed and came apart as per the photos above so thanks for that! I tried to fire it up last night but no joy - think the generator may be a bit chaffed! Can anyone let me know where I can get the seals from and type I need? Thanks
