Hello all, i bought last week a coleman 242b 1939, a have a question about the burner tube. what type off thread is on the burner tube? i measured the tpi and it is 32 but i cant find any thread size with 32 tpi, all info is welkom. Thanks
Congrats--those are great little lanterns. If I recall correctly, the 242Bs have a larger tube and cap for the burner than the 200s. Other 242s use the same cap as the 200/200A. On all, the burner tube is shorter than the 200/200A, and has different thread lengths on each end. Coleman--and other US GPA makers--used some odd thread sizes not commonly found today. The threads for the valve/fount bung on the 220/8 series and other lanterns, for instance, is a tapered 1/2" 32 tpi that cannot be found new. I've seen the same threads used on some US made blowtorches, so that thread size wasn't uncommon at one time.
I’m thinking that 242s and 249s, the valve thread into the fount is 1/4 NPT. Also on the 200. Cheers Pete
242s use a 1/8" NPT thread for the valve-to-fount bung. A common US plumbing thread. I think the 249 uses the Coleman tapered 1/2" thread, like most of the larger lanterns. For the truly old lantern, Quicklites and earlier, the fount thread was also 1/8" NPT.
Oldcolemanparts.com has a steel one, appropriate for a wartime B or C, probably not yours, but it should work. You might get the OD of your existing tube and give Mike at OCP a call to be sure. OldColemanParts.com :: Lantern Parts :: Burner Tube Steel
