    Hi!

    Found a new way to use a lantern...might be a bit unorthodox but no lantern was injured in this experiment... :)

    Mosquito repellant:

    I remember an article from years ago claiming that you could burn citronella oil mixed with kerosene to deter the little f@*%$*s.

    I like it.
    I wonder if a couple of chillies would work just as well.

    Didn't have any mozzies to repel that night but it was great for warming a cold coffee.

    That works nicely with mince pies, too...

    I was thinking about making a small cup that fits snug on top of the lantern. Where I could put lemon peel and other stuff that vaporizes and might keep them little buggers away....

    @Peter

    Does the lemon cause any damage to the hood?

    @eiremax

    I have a cheap hurricane lamp for use with citronella oil. I’d rather gum up a cheap piece of tat than possibly clog up a vaporiser.

    Regards Jeremy

    Nah, just some soot that easily cleaned off. For me the issue is to keep the lemon producing “lemon fumes”. It dries out quite fast sitting directly on the hood of the lantern. Experimenting with some kind of distance tonight...

    I poured some kerosene and shopped the other half of the lemon into bits and put them into the “bowl” for fuel....

    A lot of mosquitos when I lit it up, quite a few less now... :)
