Afternoon all. Just going through a few bits today and thought while I had the opportunity, I'd take a look for the date code on one of my two "sicke" Petromax. After giving it a quick clean it's appears to be 714...anyone able to decipher?
You are very generous with the dates but there is no proof the four digit date code worked outside the sixties. Mr. M. Aschwanden from Eugen Schatz/Aschwanden told me they put numbers on lanterns just because the army demanded so. There was no relation to whatsoever except imagine. So there is a possibility other suppliers did the same.
Hello at all: The dating code of the 50s works differently than the sixties. He is very simple. Look here, some examples. 11/2= November 1952 5/5=May 1955 3/8=March 1958 4513 =week 45, year 1961,day 3 1054=week 10,year 1965,day 4 3271=week 32,year 1967,day 1 Regards Reinhard
Every decade had its own dating code (Petromax) In the 30s and 40s they looked a little different again. For example: 126=December 1936 69=June 1939 but 140=January 1940 1042=October 1942 It was a pleasure to be able to help a little. Regards Reinhard
Any time I come across a date "scratched" into a lantern, I am cautious. Granted, the owner may have purchased it within months of its manufactured date but that's open to debate.
