I will now resist the temptation to play around with this any further. It is working quite well although I would like it to be a bit brighter but it is not half bad as it is. I put in a newer jet on the generator which has made a big difference as I suspect the one it came with may have been the original and had an enlarged jet. Thanks very much @Tony Press for your help with the replacement flame spreader which works a treat!
