Hi, looking to borrow on some expertise with help dating this pl53 I managed to buy today, had a Google and can't see many at all in this colour so I'm wondering if it has been sprayed by a previous owner?

Any information at all is much appreciated

    Hi Patrick,
looks like a steel wartime PL

most likely had a coat of hammerite by a previous owner

looks pretty good from here :-)

    regards
    pb

edit ** they were tinned/hot dipped before painting and they usually had a decal warning about rust and to routinely empty out the fuel etc

Thanks for the info, the steel wartime are generally late war right?

Anything to be aware of or are they generally well made?

Be aware of rust. Ensure that the tank is free of rust.

Why do you say “late war”?

    Cheers

I only say that as a guess as I assumed that brass started to get very scarce the longer the war went on, but apparently not after all!
