I have a couple of movies that when I was younger were scary in a real world type of thing and finally scratched an itch for a lantern for myself mainly but an easy little lantern for bathroom trips that my wife can use. I cant just get another lantern, I have to have something cool and decided on one of my favorite horror movies from the 1980's. In a scene the main character is investigating a research station in Antarctica and finds there are a lot of dark places and needed more light. Finding a lantern on the shelf and a few pumps and away it goes...showing them the carnage in the room full of dead bodies.... Yep...had to get THAT lantern. Coleman 222 peak 1 from Canada apparently was the one used in the film. Film was released in 1982...and found a 1982 dated lantern...how cool is that? Mine needed a full rebuild but got it running!
Is that movie 'The Thing'? Watched that awesome horror many years ago as a kid. Pretty little lantern.
Watched that video yesterday. There's another Coleman lantern showing up close to the end of that movie:
@Martin K. Isn't that one of those with the slanted glass....a Coleman....hmmmnmn I think that's a 275? Wonder if it's brown?
I watched the movie when I was young enough to actually believe whatever playing on the screen was real. It was certainly much scarier in that sense. So much so that I concluded it was a necessity to equip myself with three basic things:- 1. A flame-thrower. 2. A pyrotechnic flare. 3. A liquid-fuel lantern. Basically, fire . And I made it a point never to venture into the Antartic regions when I grow up...that must be the real reason why it remains sparsely populated.
Jesus @MYN now that...made me laugh at loud. My school friend had a similar story about a movie called 'The Fog" and he said him and his dad were watching that when he was a little kid. Being scared he asked his dad if that was real...to which his dad acted crazy like it was, and they even went to his room with tape to close off the windows and stuff in case the fog came so the zombies in the fog wouldnt get them. He remembers panicking...crying.....and duct tape. haha
Was looking at the 275...but apparently they have problems with the schrader valves in the early models?
I watched that as well...and a whole lot of horrors from the 80s too. Childhood memories, they almost always remain permanently etched in our minds.
