Decided my late father's Tilley X246 (1949-1954) needed an overhaul and I decided to replace the incorrect control cock (push on knob) with the period correct (screw on knob) control cock also part 2563. Problem was that the lantern ran well but kept getting a leak between the older style locating bush and the fine thread on the bottom of the control cock. Once pressure was up I could see kero welling up between the two fittings. After a few attempts with Teflon (PTFE) tape I finally spotted it was actually a leak from the boss holding the gland nut where it meets the control cock body. Fixed it with silver brazing and now works remarkably well and quietly without pulsing. Incorrect Ctrl Cock for 1949-54 X246 and locating bush. Two on right are later locating bushes. Silver brazed the loose boss right around and now no leaks. The X246 prior to the control cock being repaired.
Well done. The threaded bush allows the control cock to seat on the fount, such that the threads do not make the seal.
