I like shiny ones and this did not disappoint. Unimet GL-1, most likely from the mid sixties, made in Hong Kong. It is not at all bad as far as the quality of manufacture goes but is a bit quirky. There is no flame spreader in the burner and it has a pressure release which is not a good idea on a gasoline lantern. However, it has an all brass font and the plating is not bad at all considering the lousy reputation lanterns from this part of the world have. Runs brightly if not a little on the noisy side. I did not have any real trouble getting it working well. The threaded parts had been precisely cut so all the parts disassembled without trouble. Also note the stubby little generator which I guess would be very difficult to replace these days.
An update on this GL-1 lantern. Having run it a few times now I can confirm that it is very bright. I have fitted a 300-400cp Butterfly mantle and she rocks. Might even be brighter with a Coleman #99.
Even if I were to change the jet and put some sort of restrictor in the air tube I think that little short generator might be a problem to run it on kero. I would prefer running on kero because its safer and way cheaper. I am collecting mainly kero ones these days for that reason.
