Hello, This one came to me from Finland, i believe it was manufactured back in June 1939, going by the scratches in the bottom. Struggling to light this one with the Rapid heater, but appart from that it runs real nice and bright. Regards / Frederik

Very nice The Petromax 827 with a rotary preheater was the first Petromax of the 827 type. It has become very rare. Regards Reinhard
@Tive Congrats to this beautiful find! According to most of the documents that I have got it would even be more likely that it is from Sep. 1936. This 827 with the red enamel cap model can be found, for example, in catalogue numbers 151d, 170p, 524, and several others from that year. We (Neil, Jörg W. and I) did extensive research in December 2019 and in January 2020 and found many documents that can confirm this. Unfortunately we have only a few documents from 1939, and this model could not be found in them. Martin
Hello Guys, On the date, maybe it could be one from 36, but i doubt it, i do have one marked 6 7 here 1936 827 Rapid The thread states 1936, as i posted this one before i knew about the scratches. anyways, the one marked 6 7 has the model number imprinted on the fount, nickel hood, fibre wheel and much darker (bakelite ) rapid heater turning knob. therefore i lean more towards 1939, i actually have two of these red tops, and they both have considerable worse nickel plating, than the older one, which make sense as the war efforts starts to come in to effect on rare metalls. Nice lamp, I have got one with old style preheater but 500 CP, problem in first lamp was gallery, was cracking...What about your gallery?
what do you mean with gallery ? the cage ? i have one small crack in the cage on this one but not serious.
Hi again, you might notice that the lantern lacks a plastic window inside the gauge, here Making New plastic window for gauges. you can read on how to fix this issue. Regards / Fred,
Yes, this is a common problem, on many different lanterns, most of the time they still work though, On the Radius 119 the whole cage ring often falls appart. regards / Fred,
Some more info on this, i have one more lantern just like this one, same tag on the cage, same red hood, same wheel, same problem with the nickel plating, this one is scratched 1 9 on the bottom, if reading from the other way it would not make sense as it only will read 6 L so i do believe this one to be from January 1939, the only difference between these two is the fact that the one i believe to be manufactured in June 1939 (6 9) came with steel parts such as pump rod and pump knob, and a aluminium pump cap. this also makes sense, since the war is comming closer by June 1939. Hello, I also have 3 Petromax 827 from the time. Left to right:11 7,12 9,4 41.November 1937,December 1939,April 1941.The Petromax from 1941 already has a Zinc cast lever. The older Petromax from 1937 has a one-piece enameled hood. And this hood is a little lower. The hand wheel on the second lamp was missing. Regards Reinhard
And these are my Petromax 827s and one 821, the oldest one is the 827 on the left, ( 1 7) then we have the 821 (1 8) and the 827 from 1939 (6 9) and the 250cp 827 from 1955 (5 5) sicke lantern.
