A fairly generous use of solder. I’m sure you’ll be able to get it going properly, though. Cheers Tony
Yeah, this lantern was obviously fettled by my father. Despite being a time-served chargehand plumber, he subscribed to the view that when it came to soldering, you could never apply too much (unless he had to buy the solder, naturally - he was 50% Yorkshire... )
Im going to take it to a fella that dose my repairs to see what he can do, i suspect its soldered like this for a reason
On these pork pie tilleys the font dome seems to rise and tilt the pillars (I believe due to over-pumping) and the bottom of the pillars bending breaks at the threads where they screw into font sockets.
What the ....?!! If this falls into my hands, I'll probably screw it up further by converting it into some kind of satellite dish or radio receiver.
I had a similar issue and I was able to replace the broken-off ends of the pillars - see: Tilley SDR Type 1
@Darryl Durdin I’ve had that version of the pork pie tank with leaks at the fitting on the tank where the cage screws in. It was “fixed” with “Araldite” or similar. I removed the resin and soldered the joints - except I didn’t use as much solder as yours has! Therefore, I think that one or more of those fitting is leaking, and some judicious solder removal, leaving the joints still soldered to the tank, will solve your problem. Same with the filler boss. I’ve had to gently re-solder a few of these. Water in the tank; wet cloths on areas away from the target. Good preparation, cleanliness, and patients. Cheers Tony
