Last night I had the first opportunity to use my Austramax 'in anger'!
There was a power outage. The lamp went reasonably well, but at one stage it went pop - pop - pop for a while.
It seemed to clear when I pumped it. Any ideas? Was it getting low on pressure? Also (and this seems a silly question...) How do I know how to fill it to max?
Should I test fill it until it overflows then , pour it out and measure this quantity and put a little less back in? Or what?

Julian, full is 1 Imp Pint (570ml). I usually work on full being 500ml.

Yes, it was running out of pressure thus running low on fuel in the vapouriser.

Yes I've got some measuring pots organised now, I'm going for 400ml initially. THX Martin.

Received some spare parts recently, including this new Austramax eccentric shaft. It's all one piece, with two O rings. On the left is the old type, with eccentric nub quite worn out, and the removable brass bush. For the old type, the graphite washers, or O rings, go onto the shaft first, followed by the brass bush, then the hexagonal barrel nut. Similar to the Coleman 242 & 249 lanterns. That is, all packing goes in front of the brass bush, and not between the bush and the nut. With new seals it is not necessary to pack the nut. BTW, the brass bush has in internal chamfer at one end; thus it only goes on one way, same as the Coleman.

Interestingly, I just found an late model Austramax with a new-style eccentric that has only 1 O-ring.

They probably found one "O" ring leaked, then added the second "O" ring. :-k

Interesting - ongoing development. I wonder if the machining of the brass bush has changed as well ? It won't need the chamfer at one end any more, for the new eccentric shaft.
