    It look a lot of cleaning to get this one going:

    Any advice - should I remove the cage to polish it or best to leave well alone to avoid stressing the mounts and causing leaks?

    Is there a way to further clean the paint without resorting to a respray?

    That’s a nice example of an second variation (long handle) pork pie.

    If it were me I’d just use car polish to clean the tank and keep the patina as history. I wouldn’t remove the cage unless you have repair to do.

    I’m trying to figure out what this is:

    Thanks Tony,

    The top ring that’s under the hood isn’t quite straight, it wasn’t until I looked at the photo that I saw that it bends down enough to be seen in that one spot. It should be easy to straighten.

    1. First clean using a rag, detergent and water.
    2. Use a cutting compound for paint to remove stains. If the paint is badly worn this might remove too much paint? Your call. :-k
    3. Finish with a good polish.
    But no buffing. [-X

    @Jeff A

    It’s often a case of nothing to be found for some time, then suddenly something of interest - as time passes I’m sure you will start spotting interesting items!

    A well-done lantern. As what others mentioned.
    The more we attempt to remove anything, the greater the chances of ruining them.
    As long as you keep it away from environmental stresses, rough handling and harsh chemicals as much as possible, it'll stay in working conditions longer than you expect.

    Looks perfect to me. I wouldn’t change anything. I like the patina.
    I bought my Mk1 from a guy on an auto jumble who said it was broken and wouldn’t light. He sniggered when he took £40 from me. I sniggered when I emptied the red diesel out of it
