An old X246A that I cleaned up and decided I wanted something different to help cover up a dent I filled, so I painted it with Dulux Gloss Go Go Blue and a cheap Ivory paint for the frame. Looking at it the other day it occurred to me that I should place it here as it probably pushes back the known start date for standard X246A lanterns, (ones with bent legs), by one month from October 1961 to September 1961. The fettled X246A with the non-original Go Go Blue paint. The very early Sep 1961 date. Model number on fount. The X246A as it arrived. Iain @Mackburner @Tony Press
@JonD The Camping Gaz colour similarity is something I hadn't thought of. I just went for a color on the spray can rack that looked like it was a bit different. I do see the similarity now though. The hood, though, is still the same as in the old photo, but I did consider a new hood but went with the old because it cleaned up very well with some polish; cannot remember if it was car polish or brasso. The big chip turned out to be the main one and is still partially visible faintly on the left in the top photo. @ROBBO55 Yes, I wanted it to stand out as when displaying them people think they all look the same.
Good work.. it did look a bit tired in the ‘before’ photo.. I also like the colour for the cage metalwork ; it all makes a nice change i didn’t realise about that type of control tap on the early x246a
An interesting point and I have checked and ascertained the unfettled photo above was taken 2 days after I bought it. Interestingly another reason why I painted it was because this was an ex Victorian Railways lamp and has a VicRail number, the purpose of which is unknown, scratched into it. The paint helped cover this up. Vic Rail had quite an engineering workshop where they looked after station lighting and strange things happened at times, I gather. I agree the cage frame colour is quite pleasant and works well with the blue. Thanks
Bugger, I meant @Sedgman. Well done mate. I’m sure @Sedgwick, if he is here, would like a lantern like this too
