And why not? Roundabout city where they milk concrete cows might be brand new but all the people are refugees from somewhere else and quite a few carried Tilly's there in their hand carts. I know I have bought quite a few in the Hospital car park and a few other car boot venues. ::Neil::
Yes I agree. Not a good place to drive through. Damn place is just one long succession of roundabouts. All looks the same to me and I never know where I am. I found the shops once but then wished I had not bothered because even that was depressing. One happy thing though is they did have the presence of mind to make the A5 a 9 mile run of dual carriageway right through it so you can get past it quickly. ::Neil::
Thanks Dan... We're not exactly tripping-up over these, even here in the UK, so you have to take what you can when it comes up. Where it came from wasn't a problem at all - I was there only 20 minutes, just hitting the outskirts. I've been in far worse places round here...
Urrgh, don't get me started on misguided 60s and 70s traffic policy! Back then the 'big idea' was to put bypasses through small to medium conurbations so the traffic could be 'syphoned' away from the town cenrtres more quickly. It didn't work obviously as Hertford clearly shows. There are plenty of other examples where ciuminities were cut in two for syphon systems that never worked and left entire districts cut adrift from the towns they were supposed to be a part of. Unfortunately, although they are worse than useless, the damage has been done and would in most cases be too expensive to put right. PLUS, when they did have good ideas, like the botched and abandoned Ringway system around London, they never finished them and left jobs half done.
