On Sunday 3 June, while a contingent of miscreants were gathered at Newark, a couple of Southern Hemisphere denizens met in Cape Town to exchange a few items and enjoy an excellent braai. The shed in the background has an eyewatering collection of lamps, lanterns, stoves and heaters... This Austramax travelled to Cape Town curtesy of Qantas and the Shosholoza Meyl train. Thank you, Phil and family, for your warm welcome and generosity. [ @phaedrus42 ] Cheers Tony
It was great to finally meet, Tony! Other members visiting SA are also welcome to drop in (especially with a lamp under your arm) It was the first dry clear day for about a week so a lekker braai with good company made it a day to remember.
@ROBBO55 How’s this for a view: Sunrise on the Okavango, Namibia. Sunset on the Okavango, Namibia. Cheers Tony
Tony that is absolutely stunning! There is alway something special about first and last light of the day.
Hi Tony, Well now this answers my question. Looks like you have made a new friend and it looks like the two of you had a grand time with plenty of cheers. I hope you will do some show and tell about the trades. Have a safe journey home. By the way those are lovely pictures of the sunrise and sunset. Cheers, Norman
Great pics. Yet, miss the lantern in it. Apologies for non-pressure lantern. The PX 150 had pump valve fail.
I had to look up 'braai' and I see it's more-or-less the same as a 'barbie' as I suppose Tony would call it. However:- 10 Reasons Why South African Braais Are Better Than BBQs
Next time coffee is made over a fire, take a small glowing ember of wood and put it in the hot water when bringing to heat. It changes the taste to a subtle smokey flavour.
Blimey, must find some cheap airplane tickets fast to get over there! That braai looks very inviting.... Best regards, Wim
Sausage is fine for the assistant but no bones as he chucks them up on the bedroom carpet at 2 in the AM and then the wife
@David Shouksmith The young bloke on the left at the braai is Phil; the old bloke is me. I am now in Botswana at Chobe National Park. Somewhere in this photo is a leopard (taken with the iPhone at dusk). I have some more presentable photos on my camera, but I can’t download them until I get home. Last day here then off on the journey home via Victoria Falls Cheers Tony
@David Shouksmith Two elephants in the background... I’ll expose the leopard when I get home. Cheers Tony
@Derek Yes. Somewhere in the tree. I’m working on my iPhone with low bandwidth, so I haven’t been able to find it myself yet... Cheers Tony
