I was referred to this site as I think someone referenced me re the family history of the Tilley Lamp company. I have made a study if this and someone here may recognise my name. I'm happy to answer any questions. Love how you all take joy from my family's business! :-) My mother's maiden name was Tilley and that's the family connection.
Hi Cherrill, I'm new to this pressure lamp malarky, so I must thank your ancestors for getting me hooked.... it was two Tilley lamps that came my way that has got me started..... Best wishes for 2019, Stevie
@BigStevie I hope you don't get too overwhelmed with it all! I can see its quite addictive! I have a few varieties in my loft but its the family history that I'm really into.
A few varieties in the loft, hopefully some of those prototypes we are always dreaming about. Nice to have you here and it would be great to see what information you can provide us enthusiasts. Tilley has certainly formed a big part of my collection.
@Matthew92 I don't think there are any prototypes!!! I have a few Tilley lamps that belonged to various members of the family. Then once various people knew I was interested I got given a few different types. Sometime I will go up and bring them all down and try and post some pictures. Can I post photos here? No doubt you have seen various adverts and so on of the early stuff? Cherrill
@Cherrill Posting photographs is very easy on this forum: Choose: Upload a File Select the file(s) you wish to upload Upload and choose "thumbnail" or "full image" Photos tend to look better in full size however it is your preference really. I look forward as I am sure we all do to any interesting pictures etc you choose to share with us. Regards Jeremy
Does this mean we may have the opportunity to meet you at Ipswich Transport Museum at the Wheels by Lamplight exhibition on 19 October 2019? It is quite a popular meeting with several forum members attending. See here: Ipswich 2018 Regards Jeremy
@X246A Jeremy I have heard about this before..........it's quite a way in the future and I'm not sure what I can offer to you fellas. I'm amazed when I read pieces on this website how knowledgeable you all are, down to the tiniest parts and your knowledge about the development of the products is way out of my league!! I guess I'm more interested in the families behind the company and the development of the business from the 1800's to when it was sold out of family hands. Cherrill
@Cherrill Please don't ever feel that it is about "not sure what I can offer to you fellas". The meeting is open for the public to wander through and chat, ask questions, reminisce, or just look. The exhibitors range from enthusiasts, collectors and experts or a combination of and it is one big friendly community which is continually being enriched by new visitors, friends and exhibitors. Regards, Jeremy
Ipswich. I hope the word does not stick in my throat later. My team (Boro) are playing them today and I will be there.
@X246A Thank you for that! Nearer the time I'll get some details from here and hope to meet some of you
@shagratork Ha! I may live in the area but Ipswich is not my club!! Although I am aware of their terrible season this year! Being originally from south London I follow Chelsea (vaguely!)
