A good lamp. But I'm curious about this black something around the preheater seat. Colour, tape, what's the use of it? Normally it should not be there. Matthias
Hi Matthias, you are correct about the tape. It should not be there. It is "Rescue Tape" (heat and pressure resistant self amalgamating tape - normally used for temporary fixes to pipes and hoses on vehicles etc). Long story, it was my first lamp, and hadn't fully understood the relationship between the lead washer (#90) and the font, and hadn't yet discovered how effective copper-slip is at helping to seal the joint. The long story short, while waiting for new washers I fitted the tape, which has held since and will remove it in due course!
Hi Alex, so when the rapid preheater is tightly fixed with a lead washer, you will have the choice and fun with preheating both ways. The torch is more spectacular while the spirit cup is more gentle to the mantle. Try out and enjoy. Matthias

Excellent lantern. The light output can be modified by replacing the 500hk jet with a 350 or 250 variant and adjustment of the mixer tube. Also, when running it with the 500HK jet, a cooker attachment can be used.
Looks on very good shape. Someone has taken good care of it. A lot better than some of the rubbish I am buying Very nice.

Re lamp, it came in good condition - I can only presume because it was never converted to a kero generator. while in service Re rubbish lamps, I am with you, I've picked up another Bundeswehr Petromax, but at the other end of the spectrum in term of condition. It is giving me some fun to sort it out.
