Hi All I’ve just acquired this Bialaddin 300X. I’m impressed with the build quality of this lamp. I would like to determine its build date and I can’t find any date stamping on the lamp. Is there anyway of determining the build date? Cheers Pete
Thanks, for that, looks to be about my age. Yes, it promises to be very successful fettling project. Cheers Pete
AussiePete, Nice lantern, I too found my first Bialaddin 300x well built very easy to fettle, enjoy. toad
Darn good lantern the Vapalux/Bialaddin. I am lucky to have examples of them all (I think)! From the E41 thru the 320's, M1, M1B's. Knock on wood, I have never had one fail on me. Always dependable and easy to fiddle!
As it happens, I've 3-4 of them, George - all for sale. However, you don't really need one because they're just the current '60s and '70s lanterns but with a top in Rothmans Blue vitreous enamelling. They were prizes* when you collected sufficient Rothman's cigarettes coupons. This seems to be the only one illustrated in the Gallery:- 1970s Vapalux Rothmans Special ...sitting on a 320 which must have been the current lantern at that time. * years off your life due to lung cancer and other serious respiratory diseases were the real price you paid...
Spot on, David! Damn high price to pay indeed. It was 50 years ago this past May, I gave up the coffin nails. Had enough sense to quit early. Those Rothman lanterns have that lovely blue top. BOY....
And George, did you send funds across the pond? To suggest you might 'have'm all' is quite a claim that might come with obligations... Mike
Hey Guys, here’s an update. I’ve finished the fettle. I’ll post the full fettle soon-ish, with the obligatory money shot ...... Cheers Pete
@BigStevie I’m fully retired now so I have time to indulge in my passions. At present I’m fixing up a camper van, an AVan Aliner, and I intend to do some road trips across Aussie, also hunting for those elusive lamp treasures of course . Cheers Pete
Lovely job Pete, reminds me of my Grandad's 300x with its green tank and chromed collar, well done and I look forwards to reading the full restoration report.
@kero-scene Here is the paint I used compared with the original Bialaddin paint. I bought the paint from a local BMS Mitre10 store, I think Bunnings has it too. the result was this ...... I then used a high temperature clear paint to finish it off. I baked the painted parts for 1 hours at 200degC to get the final result. I’ll be posting the full fettle soon. More details will be included however the above is the gist. Hope this helps Cheers Pete
@AussiePete Pete your 300X looks fantastic so when you you going to do the money shot. Cheers, Norman
