Welcome. You do realise that there are inoculations against CLAP?* *Compulsive Lamp Accretion Procurement
Hi Kero-scene, thanks for the welcome. Yes i do, it's the early guardsman with the straight leg cage but alas i only have a couple of X246B's but I can hear a rumblin' between them, i think they are getting broody for some kids !. Maybe a useable Bialaddin 300x to fettle up to shiney would be a good task to learn on . The info here is huge , what a marvelous bunch of enthusiast !!
Thank you, phaedrus42, I went there once a long time ago , Beautiful place . I'd have loved to have done some beach fishing with a trusty Tilley there.
Pumpitstu, The various Tilley 246s and the Bialaddins are a great place to start. There is definitely something appealing about the Guardsman, and they may qualify as ‘iconic’ too. I won’t further comment on the Bialaddins as, although I own more than one I’ve never seen one working. It seems that Bialaddin parts are especially good at escaping from the postal van and disappearing in the manner of James Bourne in the Bourne Identity. Perhaps in a few more weeks I may have an operational 300x and will be able to comment. Others here may want to fill the silence in the meantime!
Welcome @Pumpitstu from Queensland Australia. I hope you have many lamps kids, the sound of running lamps is a wonderful sound. Cheers Pete
Thanks Tony, Is that your pride n joy lamp in the profile. Very handsome machine, is it a version of an E41 ? I'll put a profile pic up when i have worked out how to do it and also when I have something worthy of showing off. Cheers Stu
Kero-scene Yes, the 300X is a good looker when in fine fettle although I have not seen many in top shape. Keep me posted on your 300X journey, its one of the lamps on my "Gotta get me one" list. I have heard some horror stories about lamps disappearing through shipment issues, even that USA scrap them on arrival due to some laws. The Guardsman is def the top priority to acquire next, I need to do some homework to understand and get the right model numbers and quirks of each settled nicely in my noodle . Cheers Stu
Aussie Pete, Oh yes. I have got a few cribs ready for a future brood .... is there a collective noun for a bunch/gathering/family of lamps I wonder , and there has got to be a collective noun for a group of lamp enthusiasts as well... No pressure ! eh ! I'll chuck in a few options for starters .. A Mantle... of lamps..(like as in on the mantle shelf of fire mantle ? ) How about a "Frederick" of lampers for a bunch of enthuso's , from the first name of the gent that invented the darn clever hydrovapoburnyglowythingy ... this might be a whole fresh topic to roll out as my first post .. maybe ... Cheers stu
I'm highly impressed and well learnt for that , thanks ...got to be a very rare showpiece I bet. Great post of all the pics too.
