    After firing up the Austramax, I’ve made a start on the Tilley Guardsman. Started out a bit messy and didn’t know what to safely pull apart, thanks to @Tony Press for his Pork Pie breakdown and reassembly! Really helped.

    Now needs a good clean and as suggested by @ROBBO55 and @seajay I’ll order a new seal kit from The Fettle Box Tilley Washer Kit - The Fettlebox

    A new spring for the flyscreen might be needed, unsure if the pricker is ok, looks a little misshaped?

    Struggled to pull the pump apart but hope it will work once I’ve cleaned it up a bit.

    Advice and suggestions appreciated!

    @Buckaroo
    So far so good. :lol:

    I'd recommend not to dismantle the burner unless there is a problem running the lantern. The threads burn with usage and won't always go back together or seal. Clean it as best you can and scrub out all the pipes.
    The cleaning rod should have a needle point (0.15mm / 0.006") that just protrudes through the jet when inserted into the vapouriser.

    And the control cock doesn't come apart.

    That vapouriser for your Tilley looks pretty rough!

    The fuel feed tube often needs wired to clean it out and it's located where the control cock screws into and the knob on the control cock unscrews anti clockwise.

    The spring for the insect guard is easy to make from spring steel wire from most model/hobby shops or cut from a suitable size safety pin.
    Is the lower end of the pricker brass ? (Looks like rust out repair)

    Could anyone tell me what is that part which is on the top of the 3rd photograph of the
    Tilley lamp parts .. i.e.. pump cyclinder tube / plunger assembly .. it appears to maybe look like a medieval blunt arrow head with clearly marked numbers and letters on ?

    I have never seen one before ,, what does it do :?:

    Maybe I have one already in all my lamps .. I would like to know if possible :thumbup:

    @Alby It’s Tilley dip stick, made of a sort of plastic. I don’t think they came with every new lamp, perhaps someone else has more details.
