    An early all brass short handled 246. I swapped out the pump for one in better condition, although I did file the original pump with my checkering file to regain some grip. I just felt this lamp deserved it although I may put the original back in. The lid had been squashed out of shape but was easy to realign. I added a new orange top and of course all new washers and pump leather. I'll fire her up this evening.

    Very well done, Robert.

    When they’re up and running, you soon realise why the short handle didn’t last long.

    Cheers

    @Robert Radcliffe
    The lantern has cleaned up nicely. Congratulations :clap:
    I like the checkering you did on the old pump.
    What size is the cut on the file you used?
    I think I need (want)one. :-k

    @ROBBO55 pretty sure its 20 per inch Rob. Expensive buggers checkering files but I make knives and use them for the gimping on the spine.

    The original grip surface on pumps was produced in manufacture by a knurling tool, checkering files are a new one to me but would appear to be a means of restoring grip, also a thread file may work.
