Sooooo... my good friend, 91880, got me into the idea and I purchased my first lamp (X246). Seal change and a quick clean with some Pink Stuff cream later and I have it working, what a true delight it is too.. I can see this becoming an addiction Currently getting used to the initiation process. I now know I wasn't pre lighting long enough but second burn (dark photo) got alot better results.
@B5NWW Hi and welcome from the Scottish Highlands. Your safe for the moment. Once you get another lamp though, they will breed, guaranteed! It’s so satisfying when an old lamp pops back into life..... Enjoy the trip! Stevie

As @BigStevie has said, one lantern is temptation two is a breeding pair, then watch as they populate your workshop, your thoughts and your spare time, how good is that! The X246 Tilley Guardsman is a very good starting point. Perhaps the last well made general lamp that Tilley made and the awesome thing is they are massively under valued (I suspect that might change in the near future) but these can still be picked up very cheaply (if you look hard enough) The only weakness perhaps is base plate damage from over pressurizing but apart from that an excellent lamp.
