Hi all, For some of my fettle project I want to order some fresh glass. I need globes for my 305 and M1. At an online vendor I saw replacement glass for the 300x. I think these are all the same, but I just was not sure. So I mailed them and asked if these were also 'compatible' with my lamps, but never got a response. Also not after a friendly reminder a week later (makes you wonder...). In previous threads I saw some remarks on shades that were advertised as Tilley shades but did not fit nicely on the 246. So I just want to make sure the globes will fit my lamps. Can anyone confirm the 300x globe is similar to the M1 and 305 please? Tips on sourcing these globes are also welcome. Thanks!
Yes globes for 300, 300X, 305 and M1 are the same straight cylinder globe. You should find at Base Camp. ::Neil::
Bugger Maybe I will use a dremel tool to grind off some of the aluminium so the globe will slide down all the way. Not sure yet.
Never see that before. They only ever made one size of globe so I would have expected Mike to have the right size for any Bialaddin/Vapalux that used this V60 globe. ::Neil::
I think we got the same lantern and the globe I have in mine right now is marked Bialaddin V60 and fits very tight.
@Mackburner it isn't an official V60 globe and it didn't come from Mark. It's a repro from an other vendor marketed as a 300x globe.
@Emiel I've had a similar problem, with UK Military frames (300/M1). A glass I thought would fit, didn't it was too tight on the fame. I ended up ordering a "Vapalux" glass, which fitted fine.
I have just fettled an m1, and it has a short glass, although it is unbranded and unlikely to be the original.
If you have a Bialaddin/Vapalux 300, 300X, 305 or something with the previous W&B style frame you could try swapping the new glass over - the new glass might fit in one of those as there is a little more room.Just a thought.
@James K Not sure your glass is correct for a M1. Here is mine as a comparison, they have a long glass:
@Alex Smith I think you are right, after looking through the reference library they all have a long glass, and a pre heater dish. I shall enjoy mine as is for now, i was lucky enough to have been given it.
@James K Looks like an innovative home fix to make a lantern work with the parts available at the time. A nice find and gift to receive. Regards Jeremy
@Alex Smith Nice example of of an M1 you've got. Compliments. @ColinG correct. I bought two of these globes. The other one was for a 305. This one fits (snugly). Now let's keep an eye open for another WB lamp with intact straight glass so I can swap em around.
