Shower time , light provided by my aida, 1350. Great find, minimal needs to get it going, the preburner work a treat
I asume it works on kero, its been going well, i think it may have an air leak as it gose out of pressure after a while. Still it is very cool
They are kero all the way! I like the aida's, there's just something about them. You have a nice example, too. I have a couple: several 1250's. Couple of 1500's, a 1233 which is a real pleasure, a 1214, and finally 1215. I went nuts with these! I don't have a 1350! You are one up on me!
Another lovely lamp Darryl. Well done for getting it running, I have a 500cp one that I can't get running.
@James K , my lantern didn't take much to go, I have an air leak some where, I have not pulled it apart to see what makes it tick, but if you want to get your 500cp going we can start a trouble shooting list, dose it have new seals for the fuel, dose the 500 have a pre burner like mine?, dose the pump work and the NRV? this will be a start, if it holds pressure do the dunk test to see if you have a leak in any areas.
@Darryl Durdin I have not got that far with my lamp yet. I have a broken ceramic nozzle and typically the thread is different to the readily available ones, as is the mixing chamber so only aida spares will fit, not that I can find any. My lamp is in the reference gallery but it is the previous owners post.
Strange, I'd have thought that Petromax parts would fit perfectly, after all, they came from the same stable.
@Henry Plews, Hello Henry, the ceramic on the aida has a taper to the thread and the replacement petromax ones only go on 3/4 of a turn. The mixing chamber was also different, I did measure the thread but can't remember what it was. It would be a simple job to modify another mixing chamber if I had the correct size tap and hopefully one day I will find one. It is otherwise a lovely lamp, I think the glass has some additional markings from a far East importer.
New avalable ceramic heads tend to have another thread then the original heads. I ordered some at Hytta, way back in time, and had to return them.
@James K Ah, I see. I take it that the J tube is held in place by two nuts rather than the more modern arrangement ?
Hmm.. @James K Perhaps you could use the whole J-tube assembly from Butterfly. They are still using the 2 nuts design. I've also found out that Sea Anchor burners can screw into Pmax chambers without brute force. Sea Anchor threads seems to be finer. The chambers don't swap too.
That's an interesting glass, there won't be many like it in the U.K. If you run out of patience, parts are available from www.base-camp.co.uk but it would mean buying mixing tube and gas chamber to ensure compatability.
Its a pity the ceramic burner is broken in half. I can see the taper. Perhaps you could find the less expensive ceramic burners that are made from softer clay materials? These are soft enough to be 're-threaded' if you carefully twist them in and out into the mixing chamber. Part of the softer clay threads would be broken and eventually match up with the Aida mixing chamber threads. It has worked for me before. It doesn't work with hard ceramic types. At least a temporary solution till you get the original.
