Hi guys, just a quickie , if any1 can help, i've had my 502 auto running a few times, strange thing is it's super quiet, is this normal ? As I've had Anchors in the past & they were loud, the hippo is running perfect, like a dream, just really quiet,. I'm wondering if I've put it together wrong
Are they a quiet lamp normally ?

Hi @Burkster - they can be - but don't ask me what causes it. I have identical optimus 350s one loud, one quiet both work well. Despite fiddling and swapping things over I have never got them the same.
My Hiplolito is quieter when the pressure goes below 1.75 bar (on the gauge) - are you running yours @ the full 2 bar ? (red line)

It has something to do the the turbulence of both the fuel-air mixture and the flame that's burning at the outlet of the burner.
I've been curious over these workings once in while.
A short turbulent flame is usually noisier than a longer, laminar flame. Has anyone notice the difference between a laboratory Bunsen burner and a propane torch of the same tube size? Or for those into stoves, between the roarer and silent cap?
What about the roar of a Milspec? I know some smaller Primus lanterns are remarkably quiet.:-$

The length of time pressure is maintained is dependent on the amount of fuel in the tank as I'm sure you are aware. Is your lantern operating with a 500HK jet? These lanterns can easily be swapped over to 350 or 250 HK jets, thus reducing the operating noise

Out of curiosity, may I ask how long does it hold at 2bar? Our perceptions of 'for ages' can be vastly different under differing circumstances.:)
There are lanterns that can operate well and light up bright, even at 1 to 1.5bar. This would usually mean a much more quiet operation compared to operating it at 2bar or higher.
I sometimes observed this in the past, especially when the entire fount was already very warm.

Hi guys, erm, @eiremax , I'm not sure, DNT know, it is really thin to a spare I've acquired....if I put the acquired one in would this make it brighter even more ?.... I am happy with this present one like, also it does have a 500 nipple on it
and @MYN ,. Whilst fishing the other night, it was running for a good 90 mins, and had hardly moved, I didn't need to re-pump it, as it was still very bright, and running like a song

If its almost full of fuel, it shouldn't remain at 2bar for very long. 90minutes is pretty long unless the fount is less than half full. I'd say its possible.
