Lamp collectors Act 1908 "section 44a paragraph 7 - You do not have to wait until it is dark to light your lamp" Your right.
Nice “Austramax” etched globes, @Buckaroo. You can get straight cylinder globes for Austramax, or buy Chinese-made Coleman bulge globes and take the branding off them (with dilute sulphuric acid), if you’re worried about damaging the Austramax ones. Cheers Tony
Haha great to know @Anthony I didn’t know you could remove the etching on the Chinese made Coleman globes @Tony Press ! I’ve always just used the originals, but now I have a few nice globes I’ve been looking for suitable replacements for when I want to light them. Have you or another member written a thread about this already? Would love more info on the process, which I imagine is pretty straight forward, but I haven’t worked with an acid solution before and I’d want to get it right. Cheers, Adrian
Adrian I’ll post some photos later today. But... it has to be done on the globes that are painted, not acid etched. Tony
Ah yes, but section 54 para 9 of the 1953 Manchester Rules says it is an offence to ask whether you have to wait for dark to light your lamp. (Yes, a fan of Mornington Crescent!)
One of my favourites, too. The latest Austramax aquisition needs so many new parts I should have left it where I found it and bought a new one. Not finished yet, waiting on parts after the holidays. Burning ferociously outside the mantle - jet worn oversize no doubt. I'm sure I cleaned the air tubes. This one has a crinkled generator.
Printed branding removal technique here: Removing the (printed) branding on glass Note: I used Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) not Sulphuric acid (as I incorrectly mentioned above). Tony
