So I got this one going today, is the aluminium pump correct for this model or should it be the brass type ? On which model did Tilley change to the aluminium pump ? Also did the A come with brown or black hood when new ? Thanks in advance

This link shows the actual X-246-A pump and the black hood is correct and the aluminium pump was first introduced on the X-246-B lantern.

    Tilley TL-120 pump.

@JEFF JOHNSON, most of my X246A have an X246 pump on them, I've 8 completed lamps,. Also I've 3 incomplete and they do have the brass X246A style pumps on them.

X246A was sold from about April 1961 to September 1964. Early examples from 1961/2 came with the brown hood but from about March 1962 had the black hood. ::Neil::

The Guardsman lantern pump is a much better pump so folk would have replaced the actual x246a pump with them.

    That is entirely your decision.

@JEFF JOHNSON, I want them to be original, will it matter?
Or does this not make them original any more?

In my opinion, it won't matter.
